Mid-1950s – Jackie Robinson Game-Used Glove-Never Seen or Offered Before (Late Career)
Bid Now-Ends April 19th, 2012 8pm PST.
With a reflection on Jackie Robinson Day (www.iam42.com) in Major League Baseball on April 15th, we present one of his game worn gloves. One of Jackie’s glove has never offered before in auction, and we are proud to present this rare gem. It was discovered in NYC tucked away in a garage, wrapped in plastic. All together, the find included Jackie Robinson’s bat, Dodger Caps, and this glove.
Robinson to the major league level in 1947, was a bold—but long overdue—endeavor by the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the institution’s unwritten color barrier. Robinson played his first season at first base and spent the majority of his career at second. Robinson met the challenge—and abuse—head on, and became a vital component of the National League’s most powerful franchise. He was named the MLB Rookie of the Year in 1947.
Over a ten year career, he played in six World Series including the one in 1955. Also not forgotten in his 1962 HOF campaign, was that he played in six consecutive All-Star Games (1949-54) and won the NL MVP in 1949.
Assessing himself, Robinson said, “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me … all I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” It is also important to note, that although many opposed him, some offered words of encouragement like his teammate Pee Wee Reese, Hank Greenberg and Leo Durocher. Regarding Robinson’s qualities on the field, Leo Durocher said, “Ya want a guy that comes to play. This guy didn’t just come to play. He come to beat ya. He come to stuff the goddamn bat right up your ass.”
Offered is a Rawlings model glove employed by the Hall of Famer during his history-making career in Flatbush. This rare gem is a mid-1950s late career glove. Robinson was the first winner of the Rookie of the Year Award, and his veteran-like playing immediately brought him to October drama and excitement. The glove shows solid wear and aging on the leather throughout. The split-finger catch pocket attachment has seperated. One of the highlights is his iconic jersey number “42” written in black felt tip on the intact wrist strap. His jersey number “42” has been retired in all Major League clubhouses as a representation of Jackie’s pioneerism, courage and grace in baseball.
It should be noted, Jackie Robinson tangibles that survive are today viewed through the prism of baseball’s historical importance, relevance and of course monetary value. This is not something that can wantonly pass from one collector’s hand to the next. This is for the elite collector with an appreciation for the historical impressions of baseball.

Relieving is in My Blood
American Memorabilia, the most trusted on-line auction house Interview’s Jonathon Paplebon.
Fame on the diamond came swiftly, just like Jonathan’s
dance for which he’s also gained renown. He started celebrating
to that dance as a fluke. He had a smash performance
on Letterman and when I asked him about hosting,
unhesitantly he stated, “No, no, I am just playing baseball.
I am just pitching. I am not even thinking about anything
else.” Papelbon’s glove went into the Hall of Fame, but the
Sports Illustrated Cover Star, is not shy about what he keeps
for his personal mementos. “Oh yeah, I keep my cleats, I
have a glove, and I have my teammates sign my game-worn
jersey and cap.” We were trying to locate the Final-Out Ball,
we thought Veritek gave it to you. “No, no. I don’t where it
is.” That ball may be a toughy to fish out.”
Papelbon’s fame with his World Series Final out has carved
a notch for him in Boston history. We caught up to him at the
annual Greater Boston Sports Collectors Show at the Shriner
Auditorium. Sureshotpromotions.com sponsors the signings
and they have an all-star lineup. The best part about the
events is that you actually get close to your favorite players.
Jonathan treats his fans with traditional Southern hospitality,
ensuring all receive what they came for – a moment with
him and an autograph.
He doesn’t feel a need to emulate any other pitcher, “I just go
out there and try to be me and have my own style.”
Would a top reliever want to be a starter? Papelbon says
“No, relieving is in my blood. You always have to be ready.”
There have been many great baseball families – Boone,
Bonds, Alou – and now the Papelbon’s have made a name
for themselves with Josh and Jeremy right in their brother’s
footsteps. They haven’t played against each other yet. “We
loved to collect any and every baseball card we could get our
hands on,” Josh remembers.
Jeremy’s manager is Ryne Sandberg, and of his skipper,
Papelbon reflects: “I’ve always looked up to Sandberg, so it
was great having him as a manager and also have an autograph
of his. Getting a Ruth signature would be really cool
and they’re hard to get. The first year, I got the team to sign
a Cubs photo.”
And on his station in the game, he shares: “It’s inspiring and
frustrating having my brother as a star player because that’s
where I want to be. Josh’s and Jeremy’s teams launched the
“Papelbon Papel-bet,” in which the twin with the lowest ERA
at the end of the season would get to name a charity to which
his brother’s team must make a donation.
“We were born
in Louisiana and
grew up in Florida.
We played
every sport,
anything, but
extreme sports. I
hurt myself skateboarding.”
With three boys
all playing professionally,
their parents
have found it
impossible getting
to all the games,
“…that’s the hard
part since there
are three of us.
But they do it.”
At 24 and 26 they
have a lot of game
left. Keep a

American Memorabilia Sports Auction Ends November 4th 2011, 8 PM PSt.
American Memorabilia Sports Auction ends November 4th, 2011 at 8PM PST 15 minute rule, features this never offered before Ohio State championship ring.
Ohio State University Buckeyes, head coach Woody Hayes recruited Tatum as a running back, but assistant coach Lou Holtz convinced Hayes to switch Tatum to defensive running back.
Tatum helped lead the Buckeyes to a 27-2 record in his three seasons as a starter, with two national championship appearances and one national championship win in 1968, Tatum’s first season with the team. And in the storied rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, Tatum and his fellow Buckeyes won in 1968 by the score of 50-14. Tatum was a first-team All-Big Ten in 1968.
Tatum was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1981 and into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2001, Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel instituted the “Jack Tatum Hit of the Week Award,” given to the player who had the most impressive defensive hit of the game.
Important and significance this ring symbolizes Jack’s outstanding football career, and legacy. Incredibly scarce, Ohio State Rings, are almost non-existant, as typical owners never sell them. This is a wonderfully rare and exceptional opportunity that the family is actually offering this ring up for sale for Jack’s fans, and Ohio State fans to appreciate.
In 1968 under the direction of head coach Woody Hayes, Ohio State claimed its fifth of seven National Championships. This 28 gram (1 ounce) 10K gold, size 10-11 ring commemorates that championship.
“OHIO” is embossed diagonally in gold lettering on an oval ruby red stone on the top of the ring. Around that is cast in bold lettering “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS”. On the right panel the championship year “1968” is cast over an image of a football, while “OHIO STATE” is cast above a depiction of the Buckeyes’ Ohio Stadium on the left panel.
On the inside right side of the ring is the manufacturer’s name “JOSTENS” with a “10K”, and ”Jack Tatum” is engraved on the inside.

American Memorabilia Sports Auction 1923 Babe Ruth Professional Model Bat Now Available
There is nothing quite like the thrill of holding a Babe Ruth bat in one’s hands, and this is a scarce early example dating to the era of the New York Yankees’ first World Championship season of 1923. This Hillerich & Bradsby “125″ Louisville Slugger exhibits excellent use with cleat marks and swelling evident from big hitting along the barrell of the bat. Ruthian in appearence, this bat is incredibly attractive, and is made of professional grade white ash wood and features a medium brown patina adding even further to the aura of the bat. View the item.
Importantly, the centerbrand and barrell stampings remain prominent – the Babe’s signature is incredibly bold and clear for all to see. The 1922-25 period is indicated by a relatively small difference in the lettering font and positioning within the centerbrand. This bat may have been used during the very first Yankee Championship season of 1923! and during the very height of Ruth’s career.
Factory records of the 1920s are incomplete with regard to Ruth bat orders, with the lengths and weights of many orders not recorded. At a length of thirty four inches and weight of thirty four ounces, this bat certainly falls in the acceptable range. While it is currently believed bats of thirty-five or thirty-six inches in length were more commonly used by Ruth, Ruth is quoted in an article on batting that he did use bats a little shorter as well, and there is record of Ruth ordering approximate thirty-four inch bats, and record of thirty-four ounces. The knob appears to have a slight chip, and there is a slight horizontal grain separation along a few inches of the barrell, which is pictured, and is likely the result of heavy hitting, adding to the phenomenal game use of the bat.
This bat is accompanied by a Full Letter by MEARS, detailing the specifications and use of the bat, refer to posted letter at left. A key artifact from the beginning of the New York Yankee’s reign as baseball’s most noteworthy franchise.
